Key Answers on CMS for SMEs
Which CMS fits a Swiss SME?
The choice follows the use case, not the trend. Squarespace suits lean brand sites with a clear content structure, while WordPress fits content-driven sites with many editors or an existing plugin ecosystem. Headless (Strapi, Sanity, Payload) pays off when you need demanding loading speed, custom workflows or multi-channel content. Our Swiss CMS Check walks you through the decision.
Squarespace vs. WordPress — which is better for SMEs?
Squarespace wins for lean sites with clearly defined content: fast launch, easy self-editing, fixed price. WordPress fits when you are content-heavy, have many editors or need specific plugins — but it demands maintenance. Detailed comparison in our Squarespace comparison.
When does a headless CMS pay off?
A headless CMS pays off when content serves multiple channels (web, app, kiosk), loading speed is critical or the design system needs to be custom. For a classic SME website with 10–30 pages headless is often overkill — Squarespace or WordPress are enough and cheaper to maintain.
What does a CMS migration cost?
Migrations start at CHF 4,500 for clearly scoped projects: carrying over existing content, adjusting design, setting redirects, securing SEO. Complex projects with custom workflows, multilingual content or a shop start at CHF 10,000+. Every migration project receives a clear fixed-price quote.
Does SEO get lost when changing CMS?
Only if the migration is sloppy. For every old URL we set a matching 301 redirect, carry over meta data and structured content, keep sitemap and indexing clean. Done properly a CMS switch preserves existing ranking — and creates room for better ranking through cleaner architecture. More in Marketing & SEO.
Can we edit content ourselves?
Yes — we choose the platform so this stays possible without code. Squarespace is particularly self-edit friendly. WordPress with the right editor too. With headless we use visual CMS interfaces (Sanity Studio, Payload Admin). We train your team at launch.
How secure is my CMS?
Squarespace and managed headless hosting are secure out of the box — updates, patches and backups run automatically. WordPress demands active maintenance: regular plugin updates, a secure hosting environment, 2FA. Outdated WordPress installs are one of the most common attack vectors for Swiss SMEs.
Which CMS does Noevu recommend for AI-driven workflows?
Headless CMSs like Payload or Sanity, because they deliver structured content as JSON — the ideal input for AI pipelines. Squarespace does not fit, WordPress only partially. If you plan to use AI for content creation, personalisation or translation, factor that into your CMS choice. More in AI & Automation.
