Common questions on web analytics and tracking

Which analytics tool is GDPR/FADP compliant?

Google Analytics 4 is delicate in Switzerland and the EU — data flow to the US, consent requirement, IP anonymisation needed. GDPR/FADP compliant alternatives without a consent banner: Plausible (Swiss hosting available), Fathom, Simple Analytics or Cloudflare Web Analytics. Noevu picks tools per requirement — and without a cookies wall where possible.

Which metrics should I track on my site?

For SMEs five metrics are enough: 1) visitors per source (organic, direct, social, referral), 2) top pages and top landing pages, 3) dwell time on conversion pages, 4) conversion rate (form, call, newsletter), 5) search queries via Google Search Console. More numbers create more confusion — these five cover every decision.

Does my site need a cookie banner?

Only if you set cookies that are not strictly necessary (marketing, tracking, personalisation). With cookie-free analytics (Plausible, Cloudflare) you avoid the banner. If you still need it: Noevu integrates Cloudflare Zaraz Consent Mode — GDPR/FADP compliant, GA4-compatible, minimal footprint.

How do I know if my SEO work is paying off?

Google Search Console is the must-have tool — shows search queries, clicks, impressions, positions and technical errors. Combine with a rank-tracking tool (e.g. SE Ranking, AccuRanker) for competitive benchmarking. Improvements need 3-6 months of patience but are measurable — and become visible in enquiries over time.
